October is National Adopt a Dog Month!
Few things are more rewarding than providing a forever home for a fabulous dog. If you have the time, space and especially the love to rescue a pet, the rewards will amaze you! Upon meeting Mylah a beautiful Belgian Malinois, she instantly stole our hearts. Oh, she had some issues (heart worm, anxiety, trust) but she instantly knew she found a family that loved her. What we found out to be most important was to do your research, ask the experts and consider finding a professional training.
For example, we got a major education from Pamela Katz, owner of Your CBD Haven in Roswell, about how to keep Mylah calm for the weeks she was taking heartworm treatments. For those who know the Malinois breed, that is not an easy task. Great news was that Mylah had a clean bill of health at the end of the treatment.
The next step was to find a good trainer to help us overcome Mylah’s pulling and leash-aggression. So many folks insisted that Gus Navarro, owner of K9 Concepts Dog Training in Camilla, Georgia was the best. Yep. They were right! After a two weeks board and train session, Mylah came back as the most gentle walking partner that now minds her manners around other dogs. The end result? A wonderfully confident, energetic (man is she ever!) and most loving dog.
I can’t tell you how many adventures we’ve enjoyed with Mylah over the last year and we wish you find your own treasure of a pet this month.
But do your homework to ensure yours is the right dog for you, since it truly is a lifelong relationship. Consider this list of 27 things to consider, written by Bryan Curley at Petlists.org. Then, visit the Atlanta Humane Society at their beautiful Alpharetta facility on Mansell Road. You’ll want to adopt them all, so make room in the car.
If your schedule is hectic (who’s isn’t these days) reach out to Furs Responders and let’s schedule some daily exercise and spoiling from our Pet Wranglers. You’ll return home each day to a happy pup that’s had an awesome day.
